With last year’s successful US$ 18 million’s worth of export sales, the Philippines gets ready for the 37th edition of FOODEX Japan, aiming for even bigger sales in the trade event.

This makes FOODEX an important venue for the Philippine food industry, enabling market access and enhancing product and service competitiveness.

With its participation in FOODEX Japan 2012, Negros Island eyes the US$ 9 billion global market for Arabica coffee.

Negros Island is located in the Visayas Region of the Philippines and is divided into two provinces: Negros Oriental and Negros Occidental. Besides coffee production, Negros is the country’s prime producer of sugar.

The Negros Island Sustainable Agricultural and Rural Development Foundation, Inc. (NISARD) leads Negros Island’s participation and the foundation’s Arabica Expansion Program plans to positions the island as a major supplier of organic Arabica coffee in Asia with aims of growing one million organic Arabica trees by 2013 with nurseries established in assisted community organizations. The program also helps provide additional income to coffee farmers and protect the remaining forest cover in Negros Island.

Along with organic coffee, Negros Island’s FOODEX participation will also highlight other products like muscovado sugar, unpolished rice, herbal products and essential oils.

People world-wide have been sampling and savoring Filipino staples for years and with the growing Philippine exports and Overseas Filipino Workers, the demand for such staples from different parts of the world have increased. Tropical fruits like bananas, mangoes, and pineapples have become the country’s top selling export products and are internationally available as processed food items or raw ingredients.

The increase in demand for Filipino foods in the international market has done well for Philippine food manufacturers. Food companies get to join various international exhibitions, fairs, and selling missions, gaining knowledge from international food market.

With productive and lucrative results during GULFOOD 2011, the Philippines – with its contingent of 20 exhibitor-companies and five institutional exhibitors – is getting ready for GULFOOD’s 16th edition this 19 – 22 February 2012 at Dubai.

Philippine Food and manufacturers will also be showcased in other international food fairs like FOODEX Japan 2012 (6 – 9 March 2012) and SIAL Paris (21 – 25 October 2012), and selling missions to various other countries.
